HELLO.

The theme of the 2015 Inaugural National Security Symposium is Media, Democracy, and Citizenship. This event will provide an outlet to facilitate discussion of ideas, concerns, and questions revolving around civic engagement and the political and social issues shaping our world today.

Hosted by students from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School for Public and International Affairs, this event is envisioned to provide various departments around the University a platform to generate discourse about complex issues utilizing each department's unique perspective and skillset.

The symposium will be comprised of a student panel and and expert panel. The student panel in the morning will provide students the opportunity to start the dialogue about relevant and complex social and political issues. The conversation will continue in the afternoon, with a panel of experts coming from a range of fields, including academia, journalism, and law. The expert panel will be challenged to navigate difficult questions regarding the role of mainstream media in shaping the public perspective and the relationship between national security and constitutional rights. This conversation will provide the platform for particpants, and the audience, to consider dynamic opinions on these issues and reach conclusions never considered before. The event will end with a reception where participants will have the opportunity to discuss these topics amongst each other and converse with panelists.

Please join us September 24th, 2015 to engage in this critical and thought-provoking event.
